第一幕，第四场，普特烈麦欧斯宫殿中的宴会。会场中灯光通明，为了款待凯撒而忙碌着。普特烈麦欧斯、阿季拉斯和埃及贵族们，都聚集台中央，忙着发号施令。凯撒登场。普特烈麦欧斯致欢迎词时，在两人间浮现出一道黑云。接着，凯撒一边环视埃及人，一边乘在法国号曲调上，唱出讽刺小调猎人之歌：《渴望猎物时该静静地躲藏》。他看到国王腹部暗藏凶器，唱罢，就带着部下离去。这时，柯娜丽亚和塞克司杜斯，就趁着黑雾潜入宫殿，不幸被阿季拉斯发现。尽管柯娜丽亚怒责普特烈麦欧斯可耻的背叛，塞克司杜斯勇敢的挑战，毕竟寡不敌众，这两位罗马母子，还是成为埃及人的俘虏。他们在唱过悲伤的二重唱《活在眼泪中》后，分别被带走了。
