第二幕：吉普赛人营帐里。比斯卡野的吉普赛小屋，围着火焰的铁匠们合唱，启幕。有名的《铁砧大合唱》，音调铿锵，加上铁锤的音响非常响亮动听。在小屋中阿苏茜脑积在细心照顾曼里科的伤。合唱终止后，阿苏茜娜想起许多年前的往事，于是将那恐怖的遭遇说给曼里科听。唱着有名的女低音咏叹调：《熊熊烈火》。她的母亲(即吉普赛老妇人)因为误入鲁纳伯爵的宫殿而惨遭火刑，而阿苏茜娜为了报复杀母之仇，掳劫了嘉西亚(即曼里科)，本想把他丢入火堆。可是在慌忙中不幸误将自己的亲生儿子抛进了火堆，反将仇人的儿子带了出来。曼里科听了这段故事，不觉深思起来，想了一会儿，便问道：“那焚死的是你的儿子，那么，我又是谁呢?”阿苏茜娜不回答曼里科的问话，只说曼里科在决斗中受伤甚重，若不是她以爱心尽力调理，恐怕早已性命不保。曼里科想起决斗时，假若他不是因一时意外的感触，饶了鲁纳伯爵一命，早巳将他刺死。因两人刚一上手，曼里科便将他击倒；当时可以一剑刺死他。他所唱的：“仇人倒地，我饶了他一命!”，音调雄武又豪爽流利。阿苏茜娜此时插口说：“若再见此仇人，切莫放过，尽管杀死他”。激起了对答极其清越激荡的二重唱，直到高潮。自从鲁纳伯爵与曼里科决斗以后，莱奥诺拉就再也没有得曼里科的消息，以为她的爱人定死无疑，她自此灰心世事，决意进修道院。鲁纳伯爵知道这件事，就想尽办法阻止，并预备胁迫以威力，得手之后，即携莱奥诺拉远走他乡。计划已定，便自这天起派兵将修道院团团围住，因为伯爵对莱奥诺拉用情极深，所以唱出有名的男中音咏叹调：《她的微笑胜过星光》!伯爵歌声未完，忽然听见修道院内钟声响亮，一听便知道是受戒礼节的预告。鲁纳知道时候已到，便下令部队藏在树下，原来莱奥诺拉受戒必须从此树林经过。果然不到一会儿，女修士们排着队出来，她们口唱圣歌：《尘世碌碌，怎能免过》!歌声幽静清越，启示着自此可解脱一切忧愁烦恼。就在修女们带着莱奥诺拉从圣堂出来，往受戒祭坛去的当口，鲁纳率领手下的人，一拥而出，将莱奥诺拉围住。在这纷扰之际，曼里科也带了吉普赛朋友来到，双方便交战起来，受惊的莱奥诺拉与伯爵和曼里科，构成了三重唱，加上士兵们与吉普赛们的合唱，造成了一大高潮，不一会儿，曼里科得胜，救出了莱奥诺拉。
