第一乐章——博尔盖塞别墅的松树。雷斯庇基说明:“博尔盖塞别墅松树林立，林荫之下可供孩子们游玩，他们围成圆圈舞蹈，并玩着军队与战争的游戏。有如傍晚的燕子，在自己呼叫声中显得异常兴奋，成群结队地走过来。”博尔盖塞别墅据说是16世纪贝里尼所建。位于罗马市中心，规模宏大。后收归国有，称博尔盖塞公园，为罗马最大、最美的公园之一。乐曲采用急速的小快板速度（bB大调——2/8拍）。在序奏部中，钢片琴、钢琴、竖琴、钟琴、三角铁响成一片，分散和弦、颤音、滑音交叉出现，形成了喧闹的音响。描绘了孩子们在松林中追逐嬉戏的动人情景。随后，英国管奏出了乐曲的主题。这一欢快而富有弹性的意大利民间舞曲旋律，表现了孩子们欢快的舞蹈场面。热烈的情绪步步高涨后，双簧管奏出由典型的民间儿歌音调写成的旋律。打击乐器清亮的音色，单纯的节奏和简朴的旋律，仿佛使人们看到一群天真可爱的孩子模仿士兵，迈着稚气的步伐列队行进着。接着，圆号以欢快的速度奏出由四度三声音列组成的民间儿歌旋律。乐曲达到最高潮后，气氛突然急转直下，低音提琴将其转入寂静的第二乐章。
