Modest Mouse 是一个美国的独立摇滚乐团，于1993年在华盛顿州的伊赛卡组成，由吉他手伊赛克·布洛克（Isaac Brock）、鼓手捷瑞米·葛林（Jeremiah Green）和贝斯手艾瑞克·裘帝（Eric Judy）发起。自从在2000年和新力所属的Epic唱片公司签约后，谦逊耗子达到了流行和成功。主唱布洛克在阅读维吉尼亚·伍尔芙的故事《墙上的记号（The Mark On the Wall）》时想到了“谦逊耗子”（Modest Mouse）这个名称。作者伍尔芙用“谦逊的，颜色像老鼠一样的人们（modest, mouse-coloured people）”来形容工作中的中产阶级人们。
