福雷勾勒旋律的功力一直是古典作曲界所津津乐道的，其所展现的是种神秘却又清晰的感觉；西西里舞曲(Sicilienne)选自《佩利亚与梅丽桑》就是最鲜明的例子。如果提到意大利，大家就会想到水都威尼斯，“西西里舞曲”正是福雷到意大利的时候，坐在摇摇摆摆的船上，听到西西里民歌，于是就写了这首很“水”的舞曲。这首“西西里舞曲”，非常的很抒情，有种坐在船上荡漾的感觉，并带点灰灰的忧郁，福雷音乐的特色与美妙之处就在这里，几乎他的所有作品都是带有一点点灰，一点点无奈。略带哀愁的异国风情有着国民乐派的民族特色，也包含着男女爱恋时心中澎湃的情感。乐曲原是一首独立的大提琴作品，基本主题是一支牧歌风的旋律，典雅秀丽，带有冥想意味，最富于民间特点。
