萨拉班德是西欧古老舞曲之一种。据传16世纪初由波斯传入西班牙。16世纪后期传入法国演变成速度缓慢而庄重的舞曲。17世纪前半叶起，常见于德国古组曲，为其中四首固定舞曲的第三首。三拍，第二拍时值较长为其特色。两段体结构，速度缓慢，气氛庄重，是古典组曲中四首固定舞曲中的第三首。 Sarabande：法语，萨拉班德，一种缓慢的3/2拍子或3/4拍子的舞曲形式，巴赫和亨德尔常以强调第2拍为其主要节奏。
