蝙蝠序曲的序奏部分采用三部曲式，乐曲以一个速度为甚快板的全奏开始，热烈而欢腾。之后在整个乐队轻柔的伴奏下，双簧管奏出充满生机的主题，流露出明显的喜剧色彩。这一旋律选自第三幕中埃森斯坦的咏叹调主题。
