天鹅（The Swan）编制：双钢琴、大提琴。这是整套组曲中最受欢迎和流传最广的一首乐曲（《不能说的秘密》中周杰伦在毕业音乐会上弹奏的就是这个主题的变奏）；有人可能并不知道圣桑写过《动物狂欢节》，也不了解《天鹅》的出处，但很早便被《天鹅》迷人的旋律所陶醉——当然这种情况在古典音乐中很常见。当各种不同性格、不同形态的动物全部出场之后，高贵神圣的天鹅才缓缓游来，清澈的湖水映衬着洁白美丽的“皇后”，在美丽和神圣面前，谁不肃然起敬？极其优美的旋律在大提琴上轻缓地流出，它的主要旋律几乎没有什么装饰，但就这样的轻描淡写却比华美的辞藻更适合于天鹅本身，也显得更加一往情深。两架钢琴的起伏音型，当然可以理解为模仿水波的荡漾，这里只作背景作用，它轻声细语地烘托主题的叙述，使整个曲子既主次分明，又浑然一体。
