第3首，加伏特舞曲1和2。加伏特原为法国一种古老的民间舞曲，18世纪常用于组曲的第一个乐章。本曲采用三部曲式，2/2拍，主题旋律采用大跳进行，活泼而有力。巴赫用两段对比不大的加伏特舞曲音调构成这个乐章，为咏叹调和后面两个火热的舞曲中间搭起一座过渡的桥梁。第一段舞曲优雅稳健，第二段舞曲轻盈明快；两段主题均由小提琴和双簧管主奏，其它乐器进行插入式的伴奏与应和，犹如两个领舞者与伴舞者谐和地结合在一起。
