这是一首单乐章的协奏曲，晚年的拉威尔不但是营造美丽音乐色彩的高手、谱写精确曲式结构的名家，更是把时代气息注入李斯特的史诗式音乐的先驱;与此同时，他更在乐曲的一开始就强调了一股悲剧气氛，令人感到命运对人生的播弄。不惟宁此，在钢琴技术上拉威尔更尽量发挥了左手的特点，除了利用琶音和踏瓣之外，许多重音和旋律都由大拇指担任，使这首只用左手弹奏的乐曲，听起来比双手演奏的更为丰满和技术难度更高。听这首协奏曲的录音会令人有「这真是只用一隻左手弹的吗?」的疑问，如果在音乐会上欣赏现场演奏，在被音乐感动之外，更令人发出难以置信的惊嘆。多年前我曾是当时还很年轻的AnneQueffelec的音乐会的座上客，她弹的就是这首协奏曲，印象至今难忘。
