Star Of The County Down-The Irish Tenors
HQ"Star of the County Down" uses a tight rhyme scheme. Each stanza is a double quatrain, and the first and third lines of each quatrain have an internal rhyme on the second and fourth feet: [aa]b[cc]b. The refrain is a single quatrain with the same rhyming pattern. The song is sung from the point of view of a young man who chances to meet a charming lady by the name of Rose (or Rosie) McCann, referred to as the "star of the County Down". From a brief encounter the writer's infatuation grows until, by the end of the ballad, he imagines wedding the girl.

[00:00.00]Star Of The County Down - The Irish Tenors
[00:11.98]Near Banbridge town in the County Down
[00:14.08]One evening last July
[00:15.43]
[00:16.56]Down a boring green came a sweet calling
[00:18.26]And she smiled as she passed me by
[00:20.22]
[00:20.96]She looked so neat in her two bare feet
[00:23.38]To the sheen of her nut-brown hair
[00:24.93]
[00:25.48]Such a coaxing elf I'd to shake myself
[00:27.79]To make sure I was standing there
[00:29.57]
[00:30.14]From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
[00:32.50]From Galway to Dublin town
[00:33.82]
[00:34.73]No maid I've seen like the fair cailín
[00:40.78]That I met in the County Down
[00:42.21]
[00:46.68]As she onward sped I shook my head
[00:48.68]And I gazed with a feeling queer
[00:50.31]
[00:50.86]And I said says I to a passerby
[00:53.33]"Who's your one with the nut-brown hair "
[00:54.96]
[00:55.50]He smiled at me and with pride says he
[00:58.22]"She's the gem of old Ireland's crown
[01:00.16]Young Rosie McCann from the banks of the Bann
[01:02.84]And the star of the County Down "
[01:04.30]
[01:05.01]From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
[01:07.26]From Galway to Dublin town
[01:08.61]
[01:09.61]No maid I've seen like the fair cailín
[01:14.01]
[01:15.94]That I met in the County Down
[01:17.57]
[01:21.96]At the harvest fair she'll be surely there
[01:23.99]And I'll dress my Sunday clothes
[01:25.51]
[01:26.29]With my hat cocked right and my shoes shon bright
[01:28.79]For a smile from the nut-brown Rose
[01:30.55]
[01:31.20]From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
[01:33.36]From Galway to Dublin town
[01:34.95]
[01:40.44]From Bantry Bay down to Derry Quay
[01:42.81]From Galway to Dublin town
[01:44.32]
[01:45.13]No maid I've seen like the fair cailín
[01:49.14]
[01:52.24]That I met in the County Down
