第一乐章，G小调，奏鸣曲式。在中提琴和弦下，由小提琴表现优美而略带忧愁的第一主题，木管经过句后，乐队激情地表达，然后那点忧伤在低音管与双簧管和弦下由小提琴表现得十分柔美。经降B大调转调后，副主题亦强有力地由小提琴呈现。第二主题有一小节的休止，弦乐与木管竞奏开始的降B大调的旋律引入呈示部的终结句。发展部主要是第一主题的处理，开始的动机以谐谑姿态，转调充满趣味。长笛、双簧管以追逐方式表现以第一主题开头动机为基础的半音阶下降旋律在主调上呈现，进人主题再现部。再现部的第一主题经小提琴、低音管强调，第二主题亦以主调出现。
