乐曲采用当时惯用的维也纳圆舞曲形式，由序奏部、五首小圆舞曲与结尾组成。序奏部开始的色彩较暗，接着竖琴、小号等乐器奏出了优美动听的曲调。然后，明亮的铜管乐器也奏响了，乐曲色彩渐渐开朗，把人们引到一个奇幻而美丽的“天体世界”。经过起伏发展后，序奏部静静地结束。随后出现的第一小圆舞曲的第一主题A悠扬舒展，演出时常配以合唱，使乐曲更为和谐动听。第一小圆舞曲的第二主题B，用明显的圆舞曲节奏和轻巧活泼的旋律与第一主题形成了生动的对比。第二小圆舞曲的主要主题带有切分节奏的特点，快乐的歌声在太空中无忧无虑地起伏荡动。上行的旋律线使乐曲更增添了活泼的气氛。第三小圆舞曲转为G大调，先由小提琴呈示出主要主题。舒缓流畅的主题，松紧匀称的节奏，形成了圆舞曲特有的、轻松的回旋起伏。随后出现的第四小圆舞曲情绪更加活跃，其主部主题一开始就显示与第一小圆舞曲第一主题相类似的曲调。 第五小圆舞曲主要主题兴奋欢快，把乐曲气氛推向高潮。结尾部乐队音响增强，色彩辉煌，气势宏大。最后，乐曲运用第一小圆舞曲主题A结束。 这里只选录了第一小圆舞曲的第一主题A（片段1），这是全曲中最精彩与最切合题意的部分。
