traditionalist who believes in the future [07:39.89]Who believes in what hip-hop was and can still be [07:43.69] [07:44.42]So we're here in this modern time [07:46.71]Thinking about and listening to the development of hip-hop [07:51.49]And it's future all at once [07:52.89] [07:54.89]I think that a lot of people in the modern sense of the word [07:58.42]Get caught up in how fleeting time is [08:02.08]And they believe that what's happening right in front of them [08:05.79]Is the most immediate thing and it's the most meaningful thing [08:09.99] [08:10.54]And they have to engage what's happening in the moment [08:13.45]Because the moment's gonna be gone and then they're not gonna care [08:16.16]Or no one else around them is gonna care [08:18.44]And I think we forget that great experiences in the in humanity [08:23.47] [08:24.01]Go on for decades centuries sometimes millennia [08:27.55]Before anybody even really knows how to make sense of them [08:30.55]And so in the same way that the monks in the dark ages [08:33.82]Were keeping records and saving books [08:36.59] [08:37.60]You know it is important for us [08:39.89]To really make sense of one of Americas great folk musics [08:44.19]And that's hip-hop [08:45.31]And there's very few people who care enough [08:47.04] [08:47.64]To actually keep the form going while trying to push it forwards [08:51.46] [08:52.41]Logic's one of those dudes [08:53.85]And the reason Madlib and I decided [08:55.94]That we wanted to work with him [08:57.07] [08:57.91]Is because he came through [08:59.89]With a true forties to be an old thing [09:22.57]Because it's been around since the early '70s [09:24.60]It's actually just in its infancy [09:26.59]And if it's not for people like Logic trying to keep this tradition alive [09:30.01]We're not really gonna know even shortly after [09:32.49] [09:33.00]What's supposed to come [09:34.13] [09:34.87]This hopefully is an art form that's gonna outlast [09:37.47] [09:38.07]All these art forms that preceded it and formed it [09:40.84]And we're only gonna know that [09:42.44]If people who truly have the passion belief [09:45.09] [09:45.65]And the proficiency the
