Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op.67: II. Andante con moto-Philharmonia Orchestra
第二乐章,降A大调,双主题变奏曲式。由中提琴和大提琴齐奏第一主题开始,低音主题变奏。较为雄壮的第二主题则由单簧管、巴松管、小提琴和弦乐部分的三连音琶音组成。之后又出现了由弦乐和长笛进行对位的乐段。乐队在间奏过后筑起了一个特强段,随即经过一个长尾声结束。
第一乐章,2/4拍,奏鸣曲式。展示了一幅斗争的场面,音乐象征着人民的力量如洪流般以排山倒海之势,向黑暗势力发起猛烈的冲击。乐曲一开始出现的强有力的富有动力性的四个音,也就是贝多芬称为“命运”敲门声的音型,这就是主部主题。这一主题是向前冲击的音乐形象,推动着乐曲不断发展,也在以后的各乐章中不断出现、发展。这一主题激昂有力,具有一种勇往直前、不屈不挠的气势,展示了惊心动魄的斗争场面,表达了贝多芬内心充满愤慨和向封建势力挑战的坚强意志。当各种乐器进行轮回模仿,相继掀起一次比一次紧张的浪潮之后,圆号奏出了一个命运动机的变体,它表达了一种必胜的信心。这是一个连接句,它从前面紧张、威严的音乐场面中,引出了富于歌唱性的第二主题,这是一个抒情的旋律,温柔优美、明朗的音调与前面形成对比,它抒发着人们对幸福生活的渴望与追求的情感。在这里,严峻的命运动机退居到低音声部并以伴随形式出现,使温柔的音乐里带有不安的色彩,推动音乐继续发展。乐曲最后在明朗的气氛中,以果断、热烈的音响结束了呈示部。经过富于表现力的两小节休止后,随着命运动机的出现进入发展部,音乐又回到了不安的音调,艰苦激烈的斗争又开始了。这时的第一主题非常活跃,它无休止地反复,调性不断转换,力度不断加强,随后出现鲜明有力的号角般的第二主题。这两个主题用各种手法交替变化发展,如对比复调的手法、频繁的转调等等,增加了音乐的不稳定因素,使音乐更加丰富。最后,命运的动机又闯了进来,并以最强的音响不断重复,形成了发展部的戏剧性高潮,音乐直接进入再现部。再现部中,呈示部那种斗争的场面再度出现。在第一主题与连接部之间,双簧管奏出了一段缓慢的哀鸣音调,第一主题的发展突然被打断。可是,激动不安的情绪又立即恢复,只是当第二主题出现时才稍为平静。然而,光明与黑暗的斗争并没有结束,在庞大的尾声中越来越激烈。这时,音乐发展的气势锐不可当,鲜明的力度对比,紧张的和声发展,形成全乐章的最高潮。乐章结束时,第一主题动机那强烈的音响,进一步刻画了勇于挑战的英雄性格,显示了人民必定战胜黑暗势力的坚强信心。
