第一乐章，歌词选自八至九世纪所作的宗教赞歌《降临吧、造物主圣灵》。乐曲开头由管风琴奏出持久的降E音及其大调和弦，合唱团随即有力地唱出"Veni, creator spiritus"，及后由各独唱家唱出歌词的第一及第二段。在管弦乐过场后，全体独唱、合唱团及童声唱同时唱出 "Accende lumen sensibus"，及以童声以"Amorem cordinus" 首次唱出以他们为主的旋律。经过不断的对位变化，乐团重新返会开头部份。最后部份先由童声带入歌词最后一段 "Gloria Patri Domino" 后，乐曲气氛慢慢推至高潮，最后在附加军乐团的加入中，独唱及合唱团以连续的"Gloria Patri"结束。
