Origin
This idiom is used since at least the mid-1800s but probably originated later. Fair-weather refers to mild weather, so the idiom refers to a friend who can be relied upon when the weather is good but abandons you when the weather turns stormy.
这个习语至少在19世纪中期以后开始使用， “晴天”指的是温和的天气，所以这个成语指的是一个在天气好的时候可以依靠的朋友，但是当天气转为暴风雨的时候却抛弃了你。
