My Egyptian Couch-Al Stewart

[00:08.37]Now here's a book full of photographs [00:12.68]That my ancestors made some generations ago [00:18.71]They're wearing the lastest clothes in a nautical way [00:24.01]The Suez Canal close behind is frozen in time [00:30.78]The deck crews star out of a mime [00:35.11]And they seem to be considering me [00:38.85]Here on my Egyptian couch [00:43.90]O the life on Edwardian steamships [00:48.20]Is measured and slow, while down below [00:52.10]There are fires that shudder and clang and thunder [00:56.83]And sweat caked in smoke, and cauldrons to stoke [01:01.43]To send the ship on her way [01:05.74]Tasting the salt and the spray [01:09.90]And a century later I scan the equator [01:14.22]From my Egyptian couch [01:36.36]And the news every day brings [01:40.63]Contains the strangest of things [01:45.02]But with confident smilesw my forebears decline [01:49.55]To gaze into the wings [01:54.09]So they look from the photographs [01:58.33]And they're curious now, wondering how we turned out [02:03.52]Let's say like the Chinese adage [02:07.38]We're living our lives in interesting times
