第二乐章就是著名的《如歌的行板》。它的主题是一首乌克兰民歌《瓦尼亚坐在沙发上》。1869年，柴科夫斯基在卡明卡他妹妹家中度夏，每天他都听见 一个泥瓦匠唱这支歌，便把它记录了下来。歌词如下;“瓦尼亚将身坐上沙发，酒瓶酒杯手中拿，他还没有斟满半杯酒，就差人去请卡金卡(女人名)”。从词意来 看，泥瓦匠唱的显然是一支油滑的小调。柴科夫斯基曾作了一番努力去寻找另外的歌词，但未能如愿。然而他从这支旋律中却感受到丰富而深刻的“内涵”，于是用 它作为。如歌的行板。的第一主题。 演奏这一乐章时，四件弦乐器都加了弱音器，音色暗淡，情调凄婉。音乐形象是内在的，是心灵创痛的抒发。乐曲采用复三部曲式。第一部分的第一主题就是《瓦尼亚坐在沙发上》，它虽然是抑郁的，但还比较恬淡、平静。 第一部分的第二主题由前一主题引伸而来，它的后一半，音调中已合有祈求，含有疑问。 乐章的中间部分由大提琴拨奏的固定动机作背景，音调凄切，宛若滴滴泪珠。第二提琴和中提琴每小节都插进一个切分音，好似声声长叹，又好似心脏的搏动。主题是诉说性的，在高潮处已成为哀告式的了。
