《彼得鲁什卡的小屋》，在后台，彼得鲁什卡的小屋阴暗狭窄得像个囚室，长期待在这种地方压抑极了。当他看到仰慕已久的芭蕾舞女演员时，兴奋得容光焕发，想尽办法让对方注意自己，却引来了心上人的反感。他无法抑制心中的悲哀，主人永远当他是木偶，女演员永远不会看重他，他无非就是个愚蠢的小丑。这是斯特拉文斯基最早写成的乐段，原名为《彼得鲁什卡的哭泣》，描写的是彼得鲁什卡戏台下的私生活，压抑、矛盾和苦闷的情绪和第一、三首分曲欢快爽朗的音乐形成鲜明的对比。一个包含着两个调性的和声成为整段音乐乃至全曲的主导因素，这项有关和声的大胆变革对20世纪音乐产生了重要的影响。
