SQ《匈牙利进行曲》是《浮士德的沉沦》第一部分的内容：浮士德独自漫步在匈牙利原野上，天色破晓，田野上响起农民的合唱和民间舞曲。突然远处传来雄壮的号角声，出征的匈牙利军队列队走来。这时乐队演奏《匈牙利进行曲》。本曲常单独演奏，或与此剧另两首器乐选曲《鬼火小步舞曲》和《精灵之舞》组成组曲演奏。首先由圆号、小号、短号吹奏出进行曲节奏的号角性音调作为引子，其节奏型带有军鼓敲击的特点，表现了军队行进的步伐；接着，在木管和弦乐器的伴奏下，短笛、长笛和单簧管呈示出进行曲主要主题，其富于跳跃感的旋律，活泼而充满生气，使人联想到精神抖擞的匈牙利军队的行进队列。十八世纪初，匈牙利军乐多采用一种单簧管类型的民间木管乐器。本曲采用单簧管和无簧木管乐器，可能就是为了"再现"两百多年前匈牙利军乐队的音响效果。乐曲的中段存在一系列变化，由整个乐队在下属调上奏出了雄壮粗犷的旋律，经过多次演变之后，再现主要主题。最后在声势浩大的进行曲声中全曲结束。全曲演奏时间约为5分钟。
