第三乐章，《信经》表达坚定的信念，描述基督的诞生，钉死，升天，和复活。这部分歌词最长而复杂，主要是三大段。这段唱词最长，最复杂。相应地，音乐也及其丰富和多变，大起大落，有很多不同性格的音乐形象。乐章由乐队奏出的简短引子开始，然后是在四个音的动机中合唱“Credo,Credo”(“我相信，我相信”)，与这两个词的四个音节(Cre-do,Cre-do）相对应，象是发至心灵的呼喊。与“万能的上帝”的唱词相应的音乐由弱曾强，具有极大的强度。唱到“圣灵”时，长笛独奏象征圣灵。“化为肉身”的音乐力度轻，旋律带有神秘色彩，象是来自天国。然后，在唱到“resurrexit”，突然从沉默中爆发出上行的乐句，表征耶稣升入天堂，复活。下行的乐句中演唱“带着荣耀再下人间”。贝多芬为每个词所作的音乐所得到的效果，是无法言喻的。乐章后部赋格合唱，气势磅礴，将音乐推向高潮。这个部分的音乐在乐队上行的旋律中缓慢，轻轻地结束，象征升入天堂。
