SQ荡漾着愉悦的气息。第一小节左手的跳跃与节奏在巴赫音乐中常用来表达欢乐的动机(像平均律第一卷中的降A大调前奏曲)。这首两部创意曲里双手交叉的演奏技法同样令人印象深刻，因为这种技法在后来的变奏中几乎等同于一种特征。本该是一首炫技托卡塔的第二变奏给予我们第一个意外，她以近乎卡农的形式从一开始便在嘲弄着我们，这其实是一支简单的三部创意曲。与BWV936中的D大调前奏曲相类似，在连续不断进行的低音背景下，两个声部展开了持续的对答——或许是巴赫认为在面临巨大的转变前夕我们应该需要一点时间热热身才对!接着就是全曲的第一支卡农——同音的第三变奏。通过一种接近于舞蹈的感觉，12/8的时值暗示出朴素而带有田园意味的细腻情绪。由于要用单手演奏出相隔很近的声部，因而如何将复杂交错的结构完整清晰地传递给听众对每一位钢琴家来说都将是一个挑战(羽管键琴要比现代钢琴易于表达)。在最先的四个小节，左手清楚而优雅地交代和声，织体规模随之快速地发展开来。
