生活与生涯
Hassell出生在美国田纳西州孟菲斯，在纽约州罗切斯特市的Eastman School Of Music获得硕士学位。在此期间，他参与欧洲的系列音乐，尤其是Karlheinz Stockhausen的作品，在Eastman完成学业后，他在Cologne Course For New Music（Stockhausen创办的）就读了两年。1967年Hassell回到美国，在纽约州布法罗他遇到了Terry Riley，1968年在Riley的首个录音作品《In C》中表演。他在布法罗追求他的音乐学博士学位，在纽约市表演了La Monte Young的《Dream House》（又名《Theatre Of Eternal Music》）。
70年代初Hassell返回了布法罗，被介绍给印度人Pandit Pran Nath的音乐，擅长Kiranic风格的唱腔。Hassell，Young，Marian Zazeela（Young的妻子）和Riley一起与Nath去印度学习。他与Nath的工作唤起了他对世界音乐的欣赏，并在专辑《Vernal Equinox》中用自己的小号模仿Nath的声乐技巧。
1980年，他与Brian Eno在专辑《Fourth World,Vol.1:Possible Musics》中合作。Hassell 1981年发行的《Dream Theory In Malaya》使他第一次在由Peter Gabriel举办的World Of Music,Arts And Dance(WOMAD)Festival上表演。他在David Sylvian的首张个人专辑《Brilliant Trees》中演唱并共同创作歌曲，并在之后的《Words With The Shaman》进行乐器伴奏。80年代后期，Hassell在Gabriel的《Passion:Music For The Last Temptation Of Christ》中助阵，为Martin Scorsese的电影《The Last Temptation Of Christ》制作配乐专辑。Hassell和Pete Scaturro为电视节目《The Practice》创作电子主题的音乐。1989年，Hassell在Tears For Fears的专辑《Tears For Fears》中助阵。
