兄弟出生在田纳西州塞沃尼，他们都会唱歌和演奏音乐。在Lee集中弹吉他和卡祖笛 的时候，Austin演奏班卓琴。他们长大后受当地的爵士乐和蓝调艺术家们的影响。到了20年代初期，他们在社区进行杂耍表演。

他们和哥伦比亚唱片公司签约，并在1927年4月7日首次发行唱片。他的唱片《Salty Dog Blues》成为主打歌曲，销售约18万张。在和A＆R man唱片公司的Ralph Peer合作后，Allen Brothers在1930年发行了畅销歌曲《A New Salty Dog》。1934年，由于经济大萧条，Allen Brothers不得不放弃音乐。

Austin搬至纽约，兄弟在建筑行业工作。在20世纪60年代，The Allen Brothers被复兴主义者发现时，Austin已经在南卡罗来纳州去世。但是Lee在田纳西州进行几次登台演出。
