by Ron WynnFather MC straddled the line between hip-hop and new jack swing, which resulted in a number 20 hit, Ill Do 4 U, from his debut album Fathers Day. Nearly two years after his debut, Father MC followed with Close to You. Its success was almost guaranteed by Father MCs appearance on the CD Uptown MTV Unplugged. Father MC was formerly a dancehall reggae performer, and there was some reggae influence interspersed with the sentimental love lyrics and hip-hop production. After a four-year studio hiatus, he returned in 1999 with No Secrets, and another lengthy pause preceded 2003s My.
