1977年，克里斯泰尔·盖尔（Crystal Gayle）演唱的歌曲《把我棕色的眼睛变蓝》（Turns My Brown Eyes to Blue）轰动了美国流行音乐界，登上了热门歌曲排行榜，并获得“葛莱美”奖，被誉为最佳独唱乡村歌手。1978年，盖尔的流行歌曲唱片专辑销售额超过100万张，荣获“白金唱片”称号。虽然她出版的10多部唱片集大多是乡村歌曲，但是其中的一些歌曲由于知名度较高，深受欢迎，以至经常也在摇滚乐热门歌曲的排行榜上出现。
