Billy Boyd，1968年8月28日出生于英国苏格兰格拉斯哥。12岁时父母分离世，他和跟随祖母生活。1984年（16岁）曾参与了格拉斯哥的Theatre Guild筹办的《Hans Anderson》戏剧。中学后，他做了6年图书装订工作。随后他毕业於皇家苏格兰音乐戏剧学院，获得戏剧文凭。出席隆重场合时，他喜欢穿上传统的苏格兰裙。在1994年法国影片《这个杀手不太冷》中扮演一个警察。比利·博伊德在苏格兰组织了一队名为"Beecake"的乐队，曾出过一张叫"Just B"的专辑。他是个出色的歌手，<霍比特人3：五军之战>中的主题曲"The Steward of Gondor"就是由他主唱的。他的女朋友"Ali"，在2006年4月26日为他生了儿子Jack William Boyd。曾出演《魔戒三部曲》，饰演皮聘，弗罗多的朋友。与弗罗多一同出发冒险的伙伴。值得一提的是，Billy boyd在2004年的鬼娃回魂5中为鬼娃的儿子/女儿 配音。
