The Sins Of Thy Beloved乐队是由Morten和Arild 和Stig在1996年11月组成的，不久后又找到了Ola,Anita和Ingfrid。那个时候乐队还叫Purgatory，但必须在发行“All Alone”改名字。这只要是由于还有其他许多叫Purgatory的乐队（美国就有三个），他们不得不改名叫The Sins Of Thy Beloved。乐队名字是乐队成员名字简单组合而成。
