个人介绍
William Criss出生在田纳西州的孟菲斯，但在15岁时搬到了洛杉矶。然后他继续在包括Howard McGhee's在内的不同乐队进行表演，还与Charlie Parker合作。
Criss已经开发了属于自己的简洁的布鲁斯音乐，虽然他的基本风格并没有多大变化，但他关于乐器的技能在不断发展。他继续从一个乐队漂泊到另一个乐队，还与Johnny Otis和Billy Eckstine演奏了一些录音。
他的第一次重大突破是在1947年，在由爵士乐队指挥Norman Granz安排的一些演唱会上。1956年，他与以纽约为基础的Imperial Records签约，并录制了一系列专辑，包括与钢琴家Sonny Clark合作的《Jazz U.S.A》、《Go Man!》和《Sonny Criss Plays Cole Porter》。Capitol唱片公司拥有原版的录音，2000年作为珍藏版2-CD在他们的Blue Note重新发行。Criss也与钢琴家Wynton Kelly录制了《At The Crossroads》。
1965年，Criss与Prestige签约，他继续录制了主要是以传统硬博普为主的广受好评的专辑。《Sonny's Dream》是与Horace Tapscott合作制作的。后来的一些聚会录音是Muse和Impulse的。
1977年，Criss到了胃癌，不再进行表演。作为这一痛苦状态的后果，1977年，Criss在他被收养的城市洛杉矶自杀死亡。
