ATREYU的队名来自于1984年的一部西德童话影片《Die Unendliche Geschichte》（魔域仙踪）中主人公的名字，乐队的雏形最初于2001年在加州Orange镇成形，随后，他们在Tribunal唱片公司旗下发行了一张5首歌的EP作品《Fractures in the Facade of Your Porcelain Beauty》。硬朗的曲风与技巧娴熟的演奏令乐队开始逐渐在摇滚乐坛中颇受关注。
