Formed from parts all over, "Of Tyrants" has been raising eyebrows in the 757 local metal scene since early 2014. Originally started from founding members Kevin "box" Clark (Erase the Enemy), Mike Patterson (I said Farewell) and Greg Hughes (X-Legacy), the band found difficulty finding the remaining members to start out with. Greg Hughes, former drummer for local Virginia metal band x-Legacy, joined in on the project eventually turning to Craigslist, of all places, for help. After a few months of little luck finding someone to fill the void, enter Boston native Steve Lally former guitarist for Life as a Weapon (Ma) and drummer for Reckless (Ma). At their first meeting the two guitarists each began to notice that something was special. Their styles clashed and blended to create a sound all its own. With a hardcore pace, mixed with the intricacies of new age deathcore, both combined with heavy grooves capable of making the sternest of metal heads bounce. They immediately began to write to record their debut Ep. After some time the group picked up long time friend Rob Taylor (My Own Vice) on bass, completing the group only to lose Mike Patterson to family issues. Not long after the group was fortunate enough to enlist the vocal talent of Mike Holland, former front man for I Time bomb and guitarist for Anno Domini. This was to be the final lineup. A perfect blend of mid range hardcore style vocals with "deathy" breakdowns, break-neck blasts and heartfelt grooves, of which, the band amicably refers to as "Dudecore." Ready to record the band headed to Flagship Studios of Virginia Beach with five songs that would become their debut ep "These Days are Deadly". Working with engineer Matt Cooley (Miss May i) Of Tyrants crafted a sound unique to the band and as of yet unheard of in the area. With a release date slated for July 1st, Of Tyrants has booked a tour for mid July in support of the upcoming EP.
