John Michael Montgomery于1965年1月20日出生于肯塔基州的丹维尔。1993年他凭着首张专辑《生命是一个舞蹈》(Lift’s A Dance)出现在乡村音乐舞台。这张专辑是那一年的新人中唯一达到百万销量的专辑。同名单曲获得第四名，紧随其后的“我爱你爱我的方式”（I Love The Way You Love Me）成为他的首个乡村冠军歌曲。紧接着，（Kickin’ It Up）在乡村和成人排行榜上都拿到了冠军。之后他又制作了三首成功的冠军单曲“我启誓”(I Swear)、“今夜成为我的宝贝”（Be My Baby Tonight）、“如果你有了爱”（If You Got Love）和第四名的“守住月亮”（Rope The Moon）。在这一点上，他已成为最热的乡村歌手之一，足以与Garth Brooks、Lynyrd Skynyrd相提并论。但是他并未因为成功而改变自己。他拒绝把家从肯塔基搬到纳什维尔。他仍然在享受着传统的休闲活动：钓鱼或是高尔夫什么的。
