MIKROKOSMOS

Mikrokosmos - Multiethnic Choir of Bologna was created by Maestro Michele Napolitano, aiming to promote the integration of foreign residents and aid interaction and communication between people of different cultures. Founded in September 2004, the choir has participated in numerous concerts, festivals, exibistions and cultural events. Through folk music from different parts of the world, Mikrokosmos has united singers with different cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds. In April 2005, the Mikrokosmos Cultural Association was founded with the objective of encouraging social growth and learning through singing music. The Association also hoped to diffuse a message supporting interaction and exchange between Italian and foreign residents of Bologna. In January 2007, the Mikrokosmos Cultural Association - in collaboration with the San Donato Quarter of Bologna - founded “Mikrokosmos dei Piccoli”, a choral workshop for the children of Bologna’s elementary schools. In July 2007, the “Mikrokosmos - Multiethnic Choir” Project of Bologna received the Interculture Map Prize. This is a national prize for the best intercultural practices, in the Art and Communication Section, promoted by the Africa and Mediterranean Association.
